Saint Jerome, born around 347 AD in Stridon, was a prominent Christian scholar, translator, and theologian known primarily for his work on the Latin Vulgate, a crucial translation of the Bible that became the standard text for the Western Church for over a millennium. Renowned for his scholarly rigor and ascetic lifestyle, Jerome spent much of his life in the Near East, particularly in Bethlehem, where he established a monastic community and wrote extensively on scriptural interpretation and Christian doctrine. His feast day is celebrated on September 30. Jerome's contributions to biblical scholarship and his passionate defense of the faith have earned him the title of Doctor of the Church, making him a pivotal figure in early Christian history.
