Saint Martin de Porres, born in Lima, Peru, in 1579, is revered as the patron saint of social justice, mixed-race people, and the poor. The son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed African slave, he faced significant prejudice and hardship throughout his life. As a lay brother of the Dominican Order, he dedicated himself to serving the marginalized, providing food, medical care, and shelter. Known for his deep compassion, Martin performed numerous miracles, including healing the sick and caring for abandoned animals. Canonized in 1962 by Pope John XXIII, he remains a symbol of humility, charity, and the fight against racial inequality, inspiring countless individuals to serve those in need.
