Angela of Foligno was a Christian mystic and theologian from Foligno, Italy, whose life spanned from 1248 to 1309. She is celebrated in both the Roman Catholic and Franciscan traditions for her profound mystical experiences and theological writings. Initially leading a conventional life, Angela experienced a series of profound personal crises and spiritual revelations around the age of 40, which led her to a deep conversion and a life devoted entirely to spiritual pursuits.

She became a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and is best known for her work "The Book of Visions and Instructions," in which she details her spiritual journey and the mystical revelations she received. This book is considered one of the most important contributions to mystical literature in the Middle Ages. Angela’s spiritual path was marked by both her intense experiences of union with God and her practical acts of charity, caring for the sick and the poor.

Angela of Foligno was canonized as a saint by Pope Francis in 2013. Her feast day is celebrated on January 4th. She is often depicted in religious art wearing the Franciscan habit, reflecting her deep connection to the Franciscan order.
