Saint Henry, also known as Henry II, was a Holy Roman Emperor from 1014 until his death in 1024. Born in 973, he was a member of the Ottonian dynasty and was the last Holy Roman Emperor of that line. Henry was also the Duke of Bavaria and later the King of Germany before becoming emperor.

Henry II was known for his deep faith and his support of the Church, particularly in the reform of the clergy and the establishment of a peace truce across his empire, which aimed to reduce warfare and violence. He was a benefactor to both the Catholic Church and to various monastic communities, which led to the strengthening of the Church's structure in Germany.

His marriage to Cunigunde of Luxembourg was childless, and upon his death, the Ottonian dynasty came to an end. Henry II was canonized a saint by Pope Eugene III in 1146, making him the only German monarch to be declared a saint. He is the patron saint of the childless, the disabled, and those rejected by religious orders. His feast day is celebrated on July 13th.
