Saint Maria Goretti (1890–1902) was an Italian virgin-martyr of the Catholic Church, known for her remarkable courage and commitment to purity. Born into a poor farming family, Maria displayed an early devotion to God and a strong sense of compassion for others. Tragically, at the age of eleven, she was fatally stabbed multiple times by a neighbor who attempted to assault her.

Despite her injuries, Maria forgave her attacker before her death, embodying the virtues of mercy and forgiveness. Her unwavering faith and steadfast commitment to purity, even at the cost of her own life, have made her a beloved figure and a symbol of purity and virtue for Catholics around the world. Saint Maria Goretti was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950, and her feast day is celebrated on July 6th.
